"Semper Reformanda" Indeed

Dave Powlison of WTS (PA) spoke last week here at Southern Seminary, which was in connection with the Seminary's newly announced plan to move the counseling program to a more Biblical approach. You can read the article here.

Now, I haven't taken any counseling classes here, but when I hear about them wanting to move to a more Biblical approach that upholds the sufficiency of Scripture, I get excited (especially with how seminaries can be these days)! May God be glorified in this, and may His Word guide every step of the way!

Calvinism, the Solas, and Hymns

Today I was thinking about various hymns and how many of them could be used as chapter titles to books on Calvinism and the 5 solas of the Reformation. I told my fellows #prosapologian channel rats that I would post some. Feel free to add some of your own on the comments thingy :D

Total Depravity- Tis Not that I Did Choose Thee, God Be Merciful to Me

Unconditional Election- Tis Not that I Did Choose Thee

Particular Redemption- There Is Power in the Blood, The Blood Will Never Lose Its Power (yes, I've heard Arminians sing these songs...)

Effectual Calling- I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say, Amazing Grace

Perseverance of the Saints- Before the Throne of God Above, Jesus What a Friend for Sinners, O Love that Will Not Let Me Go, Blessed Assurance

Sovereignty of God (the unofficial sixth point)- God Moves in a Mysterious Way, Whate'er My God Ordains is Right

Sola Gratia- Amazing Grace, Not What My Hands Have Done

Sola Fide- Jesus Paid it All, Before the Throne of God Above, The Solid Rock

Solus Christus- The Solid Rock, Rock of Ages

Sola Scriptura- How Firm a Foundation, Holy Bible Book Divine

Soli Deo Gloria- To God Be the Glory, Glory Be to the Father, Before Jehovah's Awful Throne

"Props" to irRational (Carrie Gambill) who helped me with several of these :D
